Elated party supporters also burst crackers welcoming standup comedian and actor Raju Srivastava as party candidate from Kanpur in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. As soon as Samajwadi Party announced Srivastava's nomination, party supporters took to the streets with his photos and posters and celebrated. SP Legislator Irfan Solanki said that Raju will win Lok Sabha elections from Kanpur and Congress will face defeat. The name was formally announced by SP national general secretary and spokesman Ram Gopal Yadav in a statement here.
