Residents oppose liquor shop; hoist black flags

Opposing opening of a liquor outlet, the residents of Ashoknagar in Anamalai in the district today hoisted black flags atop their houses.
Learning about the proposal to start a liquor shop in the area, which has educational institutions and places of worship, the residents had submitted a memorandum to the sub-collector, Pollachi some time ago.
However, the authorities now now began to open the outlet and in protest nearly 500 residents of the area have hoisted black flags atop their houses, police said.
Even as 200 persons, including students, staged picketing in the proposed location, this morning, some senior residents are planning to meet the district collector here, they said.
