"The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW (Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers) stood at 4.35 per cent in August compared with 4.37 per cent for the previous month and 6.75 per cent in the corresponding month of the previous year," a Labour Ministry statement said.
According to the release, the all India CPI-IW increased by one point to 264 points in the month under review. It rose 0.38 per cent between July and August compared with a rise of 0.40 per cent a year ago.
Arhar dal, masur dal, groundnut oil, mustard oil, beef, milk, onion, garlic, brinjal, peas, parval, coconut, tea, electricity and barber charges are responsible for the uptick.
However, the increase was limited by rice, wheat, fish fresh, chicken, French beans, potato, tomato, cooking gas and petrol, putting downward pressure on the index.
The indices of 36 centres stood above the all-India index and other 42 centres' indices came in below the national average.
