In a case of road rage, a retired IPS officer and his brother allegedly assaulted the driver of the special commissioner of the Delhi government's transport department in southwest Delhi's Dabri, police said today.
Retired IPS officer Chatar Singh and his brother Samresh Kumar Parcha were arrested soon after the incident on October 9 and later released on bail.
Police said that to deter the accused from beating the driver, Transport Commissioner Varsha Joshi started video- recording soon after an argument broke out between them, but Chatar Singh flaunted his contacts in high places and assaulted Sanjay Roy.
Two vehicles -- one carrying Joshi and the other carrying special commissioner K K Dahiya and another transport department official -- were returning from Dwarka after an inspection, the police said.
The vehicles carrying Dahiya was moving ahead of Joshi's vehicle. In the meantime, a vehicle carrying two men hit Dahiya's vehicle from the right side.
One of the men came out and started beating and abusing Sanjay Roy, Dahiya's driver. Joshi's vehicle also arrived there and the official asked him to stop. However, he did not stop and the second person, who was in the car with him, also came out and started assaulting Roy.
Joshi informed the police about the incident, following which Chatar Singh and his brother were arrested.
