A teachers association of the Aligarh Muslim University has claimed that funds collected for last year's Kashmir flood relief were still lying "unused" and demanded that it should be returned with interest to the association for providing assistance to the victims.
The executive committee of the AMU Teachers Association (AMUTA), which today passed a resolution, demanding that the funds, lying with the university "should be returned with interest to the AMUTA".
It also passed a resolution criticising the University' s move to making mandatory for teachers "to seek permission from the university before leaving the town during vacations".
"This is a step meant to harass and intimidate teachers," AMUTA Secretary Mustafa Zaidi alleged.
The recent controversy over irregularities in the medical entrance test was a "result of the failure of the Controller of Examinations," he told reporters.
Instead of taking action against the Controller (of Examinations) and removing him atleast till the enquiry is proceeding, the university is resorting to such "high-handed" measures against teachers for raising this demand".
Zaidi said that AMU teachers were "strongly opposed to the HRD Ministry's move to introduce the Choice Based Credit System and will wholeheartedly participate in protest against this move in New Delhi on June 17".
