Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) President Naresh Tikait said the MSP of Rs 275 and Rs 280 per quintal announced by the state government yesterday favoured sugarcane owners and not farmers and said it was not acceptable to farmers.
He claimed that farmers of the neighbouring state of Haryana are getting a higher price as compared to them.
Tikait said the cost of growing the crop had increased over time but the price for sugarcane had not been revised accordingly by the government.
