Rice basmati surges on stockists buying

Rice basmati prices firmed up by upto Rs 300 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on increased buying by stockists against tight supplies.
However, other grains held steady in thin trade.
Traders said besides increased buying by stockists, tight stocks position on fall in supplies from producing belts mainly pushed up rice basmati prices.
Higher enquiries from rice mills also fulled the uptrend, they said.
In the national capital, rice basmati common and Pusa 1121 variety edged higher to Rs 7,200-7,300 and Rs 6,000-6,100 from previous levels of Rs 7,000-7,100 and Rs 5,700-5,800 per quintal respectively.
