He will replace current DGP Surendra Singh as the new head of the police force, Mantralaya sources said today.
It is a normal practise in Madhya Pradesh to appoint a senior most IPS officer as OSD prior to his taking over as the DGP of the state, the sources said.
The orders appointing Shukla as the OSD was issued late last night, the sources added.
Shukla was currently posted as chairman of Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation.
Singh will retire as DGP on June 30 while Shukla will take charge of the force on the very same day.
