Railway workers have put off their "work-to-rule" protest, earlier scheduled for December 11, after the Railway Board assured them that their demands will be considered for action.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) said that following a meeting with the Railway Board on December 4-5, it has decided to temporarily postpone the protest.

On November 22, the union had said its workers won't do more than the minimum required work, according to the rules of their contract, from December 11 to protest the Railway Ministry's refusal to meet their demands which include revision of running allowance, upgradation of posts, revision of bonuses and exemption from the National Pension Scheme.

"We have decided to postpone the protest because we have been assured that our demands will be met. The railway board has asked us for some time to consider our demands, so we have decided to give them this time," said Shiv Gopal Mishra, General Secretary, AIRF.
