An unidentified person was
charged with offence for allegedly attacking a man and looting in Vilangi village of Saphala district near here, police said today.
The incident took place last evening when a masked man gate crashed into the residence of Rushikesh Patil (29) in Vilangi village and opened fire with an aim to rob the house, Kelwa police station sub-inspector A G Dhotre said.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim's mother yesterday, the miscreant stole golden bangles valuing around Rs 80,000 from the house and also threatened her and Patil.
"The victim's mother had just arrived home when she saw the attacker inside her house and while her son tried to raise an alarm, the miscreant opened fire at her mother but it hit Patil as he tired to shield her," the officer said.
Patil is being treated at a hospital in Mumbai and a case has been registered under section 397 of IPC (robbery with attempt to cause death) and relevant sections of Arms Act.
