Robbers broke into a bank in northern Guwahati in Assam's Kamrup Rural district in the wee hours of today and ransacked the place.
They, however, failed to break into the locker, bank sources said.
The robbers entered inside the Silsako branch of United Bank of India (UBI) after breaking open a window, sources said.
There were no guards on night duty at the branch.
The break-in was discovered when employees reported for work this morning and informed the police.
Neither the police nor the bank authorities have so far provided details regarding items or money taken away by the robbers.
