The incident occurred in the Panchwati colony of Siyani Gate area here, police said.
The woman, identified as Pinki, had boarded the auto along with her brother and three-year-old in the afternoon today. Two other persons were already sitting in the auto when the trio got in.
"As they approached Lal Kuan, the auto driver asked Pinki and party to get off, saying that police were checking vehicles ahead.
"The trio duly got off and were walking away when the woman realised her bag was not with her. She instantly raised an alarm which led passersby to give chase to the auto and stop it," said Pramod Gautam, the Siyani Gate SHO.
Police, who have registered a case of theft, refused to disclose the identity of the auto driver and his two accomplices.
