A rogue elephant, which had killed seven persons in villages bordering Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the past five years, was captured today in Agali in Kerala, Forest officials said.
When the tusker came near a river this morning, Forest department staff tranquilised the animal and shifted it to a lorry with the help of "kumki" elephants, they said.
The elephant had become a nightmare for people in tribal villages of Anaikatti in Tamil Nadu and Sholayur and Agali in Kerala in the last five years, during which it had killed seven persons on both the sides of the border.
After disussions between Forest Department officials of the two States, it was decided to trap the elephant and the services of "kumkis" (tamed elephants) - "Sujay" and "Vijay" were requisitioned from Mudumalai Tiger Reserve camp in Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu, sources said.
