According to police, during a routine vehicle check, the cash and gold were found hidden in the car in which five persons were traveling.
A police team, led by Perinthalmanna Circle Inspector C K Nasar, recovered the valuables.
All the five were taken into custody for questioning after they failed to produce required documents to prove the source of the money and gold, police said, adding, they were being interrogated.
