Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dalhousie, Sagar Chander Sharma said the money, which was in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, was seized from a private car during checking at a 'naka' set up at Banikhet Toll tax barrier on the Chamba-Pathankot national highway.
A case has been registered under section 102 of the CrPC for further investigation, the DSP said.
The vehicle was on its way from Banikhet to Indora in which one Vishnu and the car driver, Alok, were travelling.
On Sunday, Rs 24.64 lakh was seized from two cars by the police at Banikhet toll tax barrier and later Rs 8.5 lakh was seized from Chowari area.
So far, a total amount of Rs 40.64 lakh in mixed currency denominations of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes has so far been seized by police in Chamba district.
