The continuous rains have resulted in the administration declaring a holiday for schools in Valparai area.
The rain waters entered a few houses in Vazhaithottam in Valparai and also some tea estates, while tourists have been cautioned not to venture into rivers to take bath, official sources said.
Valparai received 142 MM rains, Sholayar catchment area 70 MM, Neerar 170 MM, Chinnakkallar 142 mm and Pollachi 30 MM rains, in the last 24 hours, they said.
Rains have also affected normal life in nearby Nilgiris district, affecting normal life, particularly major tourist spots like Udhagamandalam, Doddabetta, Mudumalai, Masinagudi, Avalanji and Kothagiri.
