Ryan Phillippe to star on drama pilot 'Shooter'

Actor Ryan Phillippe has been tapped to star on the USA etwork drama pilot "Shooter", based on the 2007 film, which featured Mark Wahlberg.
With 40-year-old Phillippe signing on, USA has given a formal pilot order to the project from Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions.
"Shooter", inspired by the Stephen Hunter novel "Point of Impact", revolves around an ex-Marine sniper, Bob Lee Swagger, who is recruited to thwart a presidential assassination but winds up framed for the crime.
Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Lorenzo di Bonaventura are executive producing. John Hlavin has written the pilot.
Simon Cellan Jones ('Ballers') is on board to direct.
"I love the character of Bob Lee Swagger and we are thrilled to have Ryan on board for the show," said Wahlberg.
"Shooter" is one of the five drama pilots ordered for 2016 consideration at USA.
