The Shiromani Akali Dal today dissolved all its overseas NRI wings with immediate effect in order to reconstitute them.
A decision to this effect was taken by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal at a meeting here, SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said.
The move followed complaints that some people, who were leading the party's NRI wings abroad, were, in fact, living and doing business in Punjab, he said.
The disbanded wings would be reconstituted as per aspirations of the NRIs, Cheema said.
The party also decided to send a team to the US, Canada, and the UK to obtain views of the Punjabi community on reorganisation of NRI wings.
The members of the committee would be named shortly, the spokesman said.
