According to police, the accused, identified as one Acharya Jasbir Singh, was absconding since last week after a case was registered against him for making objectionable remarks against the community.
Singh was arrested from the house of one Amesh Malik and produced in a court here, police said today. It was claimed that Malik is a local BJP leader.
Members of a community had staged a protest in Kandhla town in neighbouring Shamli district on December 25 demanding Singh's arrest in the wake of his alleged remarks during a 'mahapanchayat' convened over the issue of the elopement of a girl from the village with a youth from another community.
