Two successive cancellations of the safety inspection of DMRC's Jahangirpuri-Samaypur Badli section within a month have pushed back the launch of the much-awaited extension of Yellow Line (Line 2).
The 4.9 km section, with three stations namely Badli, Rohini Sector 18 and Samaypur Badli will bring several outer Delhi areas into the fold of the Metro's rapidly expanding network.
While initially an announcement was made that the inspection would take place on October 12-13, it was subsequently shifted to October 28-29.
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has now decided to inspect the line on November 4 and 5. Safety inspection is mandatory for operationalising any metro corridor.
Both of them were cancelled as the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) requested a reschedule of the inspection, sources said.
The section will cater to residents of north Delhi areas such as Jahangirpuri, Samaypur, Badli, Transport Nagar, GT Karnal Road and parts of Rohini. It will have an average ridership of at around 30,000.
"The ridership on this route in 2016 as per DPR is expected to be around 7,186 at Badli, 11,133 at Rohini Sector-18 and 10,262 at Samaypur Badli," a Metro official said.
The construction of the elevated line involved challenges in the form of having to hop over busy Northern Railway tracks and a PWD flyover along the Outer Ring Road.
Currently Jahangirpuri is one of the terminal stations on this line, the other end of which runs till Gurgaon's Huda City Centre.
Trial runs on this section began in July.
