The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has sealed several X-ray machines at Safdarjung Hospital, AIIMS and three other private hospitals for absence of requisite licence and violation of radiological safety norms.
"During a raid at Safdarjung Hospital today, we have sealed six X-ray machines as they did not have the requisite licence from AERB and did not conform to some of the imperative radiological safety requirements," said B K Singh, scientific officer at the Radiological Safety Division of AERB.
AERB, which monitors radiation of the equipment, has also warned the authorities against operating 41 more equipments including X-ray and CT scan machines.
"We have asked them to comply with the requirements within 30 days and failing which, the equipments at the hospital shall be sealed," Singh added.
Also, an AERB team visited AIIMS campus yesterday and sealed one X-ray machine and warned the authorities against operating 33 equipments without requisite AERB registration.
The regulatory body also sealed machines at three private hospitals in the city.
As per the Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004, machines suppose to possess regulatory clearance in terms of registration and licence.
AERB is a statutory board which regulates radiation generating equipment in India like X-ray and CT scans machines and operating them without obtaining a registration from AERB amounts to contravention of the rule.
