Salepur woman suffers severe burns in acid attack

A 22-year-old woman suffered severe burn injuries when two unidentified youths threw acid on her at Salepur, about 30 kms from here, today, police said.
Police said the woman, a resident of Kusumbi village, was on her way to a computer academy in nearby Kajipatna when the incident took place around 3.30 pm.
The girl was immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital here where doctors said the girl suffered about 50 percent burns.
Quoting locals, police said the youths had covered their faces with helmets and escaped from the spot immediately before anyone could react to the act. Unable to bear the burning sensation, the girl reportedly jumped in a nearby pond for relief.

While it was not immediately ascertained about the motive behind the act, locals said it could have been done by a jilted lover.
