Smith, in turn, revealed he heard rumors that Ellie Goulding is being eyed for the job, reported Aceshowbiz.
"People seem to think I'm doing it but I have no idea what's going on. I'm being deadly serious. I think I would know by now," he said.
"I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it, it's definitely not me," the singer said.
Other names in contention to sing the tune include Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, Rita Ora and One Direction. Whoever chosen will follow in the footsteps of Paul McCartney, Madonna and Tina Turner and Adele among others.
