Demanding an inquiry into missing toilets in India, the Right to Sanitation Campaign activists said more than 60 per cent of Indian population do not have access to toilets.
Addressing a press conference here today, Rajesh Upadhyay, Executive Director, National Confederation of Dalit Organizations (NACDOR), said "the Right to Sanitation Campaign demands that the right to sanitation be made a fundamental right of citizens under the Constitution."
"It also demands an inquiry into the issue of missing toilets and the assurance of a mechanism that will halt the missing toilet process while ensuring that every Indian has access to a functional toilet," added Upadhyay.
"We should make sanitation a legally enforceable right that is fundamental for health, dignity and development of people and the government must provide universal access to sanitation to all regardless of age, gender and disability," Anjlee Agarwal, Executive Director, Access Consultant, Samarthyam said.
