Sanjit, better known as Dr Omi from the popular show "Sanjeevani", was in coma for a while due to a brain ailment.
"He was in the hospital from May 27. He was in the ICU. He passed away early this morning due to cardiac arrest," an official at the Bombay hospital told PTI.
Sanjit's friend Karanvir Bohra expressed shock over the news.
"He was in coma for six weeks or so. He was first admitted to Breach Candy hospital and then to Bombay hospital. It is really shocking as I spoke to him before he was in the hospital and he seemed fine," Bohra said.
The funeral was held at around 11 AM today at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Marine Lines.
Sanjit was part of many shows including "Jaane Kya Baat Huyi", "Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasman", "Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka", "Kasautii Zindagii Kay" among others.
The actor is survived by his wife.
