"The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Bangalore has convicted M Ravindranath, the then Field Officer, State Bank of India, Jalahalli Branch, Bangalore to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 30,000 for causing loss of Rs 2.30 lakh to bank," an official spokesperson said in a statement here today.
He said CBI had filed a charge sheet against Ravindranath for cheating and forgery, among other charges under the IPC and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
CBI had filed chargesheet on July 10, 1992, but the officer absconded in August, 1998.
"He was apprehended in December, 2012 after 14 years of search, which enabled the court to continue with the trial and convict the accused person," he said.
