A bench of justices K S Radhakrishnan and A K Sikri also issued notice to Shillong-based North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science seeking its response on the plea.
The petition, filed by Dr Pravin Kumar Jha through advocate Ashwarya Sinha, alleged that the practice of making regional reservation in super speciality medical courses by University in Meghalaya and states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala is contrary to the Constitution of India.
Senior advocate Ajit Kumar Sinha, who appeared for Jha, told the bench that in super speciality medical courses, only merit on all India basis should be the criteria governing the admissions.
