Actress Scarlett Johansson, while calling for eradication of child hunger in America, revealed there was a time her family relied on public assistance for meals.
Johansson and her "Avengers: Age of Ultron" co-star Jeremy Renner have shot videos for an organisation 'Feeding America' to raise awareness about the grave issue of child hunger in the country, reported People magazine.
"My family grew up relying on public assistance to help provide meals for our family. Child hunger in America is a real and often overlooked problem, but one that together, we can fix. It is my hope that by joining with Feeding America, our awareness of this issue will lead to a solution," Johansson said.
The actress noted that 16 million kids in America are struggling with hunger.
"That's one in five daughters, sons, neighbours and classmates who don't know where their next meal is coming from, yet billions of pounds of good food go to waste every year. It's time we do something about it. Together we can solve hunger. Together we're feeding America," she said.
"As an American, it's hard to hear that we have a serious hunger problem in America. And as a parent, it's even harder to hear that one in five kids struggles with hunger," Renner said.
