The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved premature repatriation of Khuntia to his parent cadre with immediate effect, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said without citing any reason.
He is a 1981-batch IAS office of Karnataka cadre.
Khuntia is likely to be appointed as new Chief Secretary of Karnataka in place of Aravind Jadhav, sources said.
He was appointed as Secretary, School Education and Literacy in Ministry of Human Resource Development, in June last year.
