The accused Deepak, who was lodged in the jail yesterday for breach of the peace, had heated arguments with fellow inmates over some issue.
When a jail guard intervened, he also pushed him, Sadar police in charge Nandlal said. They were separated by other guards.
None was, however, injured in the incident. A case has been lodged by the jail authorities.
