Pan-African carrier Ethiopian Airlines today said it will enhance connectivity between New Delhi and Addis Ababa with the introduction of a second daily flight on the route from next month.
The only profit-making African carrier currently operates a daily service on the route besides flying twice daily from Mumbai.
"We are pleased to offer our customers a double daily service to Delhi. India being one of the strongest economic muscles zooming into the global economic picture, availing more frequencies would catalyze the channelling of investors from both countries and facilitating business," Ethiopian Airlines' Group Chief Executive Officer Tewolde GebreMariam said.
The additional flight from India's capital will commence from March 26 and provide further air connectivity to cities such as Hargeisa, Khartoum, Nairobi and some Southern African destinations, he said.
The twice daily flights to Delhi will be operated with the latest B737-800 New Generation plane, it said.
The Addis Ababa-Mumbai route, however, is catered by a Dreamliner Boeing 787-800 plane.
The roll out of an additional service from New Delhi is part of Ethiopian Airlines expansion plans, its Regional Director India Sub Continent Tadesse Tilahun said, adding, "We are striving to give our esteemed clients more convenient connections out of India."
Ethiopian Airlines globally flies to 92 destinations across five continents.
As part of its expansion plans, the airline had last year introduced service to Tokyo, Manila, Dublin, Los Angeles, Cape Town, Durban, Gaborone, Yaounde, and Goma.
