Senior BSNL official arrested for taking bribe

A deputy general manager of BSNL, Bulandshahr, has been arrested by CBI for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor.
R S Varma was arrested while "taking a bribe for clearing bills". The role of the general manager telecom district (GMTD) is also under scanner, a CBI spokesperson said.
"It was alleged that they were demanding money equivalent to 5 per cent and 3 per cent of the tender amount of Rs 2.35 crore. CBI laid a trap and the DGM was caught at GMTD office, BSNL, Bulandshahar, while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant," the spokesperson said.
The residence of the accused were also searched, she said.
