The 30-share index resumed firm at 19,770.21 and moved in range of 19,808.06 and 19,765.66 and was quoting at 19,794.47 at 1030 hrs, up by 51.95 points, 0.26 per centt from its previous close.
The NSE 50-stock index Nifty was also trading higher by 9.75 points or 0.16 per cent at 6,011.45 at 1030 hrs.
Major gainers were -Tata Mot - 4.41 per cent, Gail (1.50 per cent), Cipla (1.33 per cent), Bharti Airtel (1.17 per cent) and M&M (1.16 per cent).
Meanwhile, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) had bought shares worth Rs 887.38 crore yesterday, as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.
Asian stocks were trading positive in early trade, with key indices in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan, trading 0.07-0.49 per cent on good highly optimistic US earning data.
