DMK President M Karunanidhi today urged the Central and state governments to intervene and bring to an end the 22-day old indefinite strike by employees of public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation over wage revision.
"It is very painful that even after the strike called by the workers crossing 20 days, the Central and State governments have not given its due importance. The employees have begun seeking support of party leaders," he said in a statement here.
He mentioned that representatives of workers unions recently met his son and party Treasurer M K Stalin and explained the issue in detail to him.
"If the issue is considered as a Central Government's problem, those who will be affected are the workers hailing from Tamil Nadu and its people. Therefore, without any further delay, the Central and State governments should come forward and settle the issue," he said.
Karunanidhi said the labour unrest in NLC was not mentioned in the memorandum submitted by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the city.
"May be she neglected it because she thought it was only a labour issue", he said.
The employees are on an indefinite strike since July 20 following failure of talks with the management over wage revision and other demands.
