SevenNaxals surrender in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh

SevenNaxals, two of them carrying cash reward on their heads, surrenderedin Sukma district of Chhattisgarh today, citing exploitation and atrocities by members of the armed movement, police said.

The ultras turned themselves in before Deputy Inspector General of CRPF S Elengo and Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena at Sukma town,around 500km from state capital Raipur, a senior police official told PTI over the phone.

One of them, Aayte, a hardcore cadre who was active as a member of the Mahupadar LGS (local guerrilla squad) under the Kanger Ghati area committee of Maoists, was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, he said.

Another senior cadre, Joga, a militia commander, was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, the official added.

Enki, a former Konta LOS (local organisation squad) member, was among the ultras who surrendered, while the other four were lower rung cadres, he said.

In their statements, the Naxals said they were frustrated by the exploitation, atrocities and violence associated with the Maoist movement. At the same time, they wanted to see development in the area, the official said.

Theywill be provided assistance according to the surrenderand rehabilitation policy of the state government, he added.
