The CPI(M)-backed SFI won all the top four posts in the Presidency University students' union elections on Thursday, after a gap of nine years.
The students' outfit won the posts of president, vice-president, general secretary, assistant general secretary in the election that was held after nearly three years.
The Students' Federation of India (SFI) bagged the president's post with 1,085 votes, as against 163 secured by the Independent Consolidation. For the vice president's post, the SFI got 999 votes, as against 640 of the IC.
The SFI got 840 votes for the post of the general secretary, as against 574 secured by the IC. The students' outfit similarly also bagged the post of the assistant general secretary by a huge margin. It also got most of the class representative seats.
The SFI said "reactionary forces" like the ABVP, the Trinamool Chatra Parishad and their agents have been defeated with a clear margin.
"The single handed majority in class representatives and huge victory in the central panel posts have shown that the student community is standing tall with the politics of SFI," it said.
No students' union elections have been conducted in the state in nearly three year.
The state government issued a notification in October, saying colleges and universities can now conduct polls, following which the elections were held at the prestigious university.
