"The Governor has given his assent to the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Amendment Bill, 2015 last evening," a senior official of the Raj Bhavan told PTI on condition of anonymity.
He said the Governor gave his assent after receiving feedback from the Advocate General considering the matter being a legally sensitive one.
The Governor's secretariat has also forwarded the approved bill to the law department for notification in the state gazette.
KHADC chief executive member P N Syiem, who was elected as an MLA from Mawsynram constituency, is yet to take a call and is likely to face the brunt of the new Act.
The Meghalaya High Court is also hearing a PIL seeking disqualification of legislators holding dual membership in the state.
