The Centre has cleared the long awaited Shapur-Kandi barrage project in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, which will provide over 1150 cubic metre of water to the district, Union Minister Jitendra Singh today said.
"The clearance has been given to the long-awaited vital Shapur-Kandi barrage project in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, which will provide over 1150 cum of water to the district," Singh announced, while addressing the joint Monitoring Committee meeting of all the six districts falling in his parliamentary constituency in Udhampur today.
Another project in Kathua was the Rs 4000-crore Ujh river multipurpose project, which is expected to generate 208 MW of power and irrigate nearly 18,000 acres of land, he said, adding the approval was expected shortly for the project.
Singh also announced the setting up of a community hall in Udhampur and allocated Rs 70 lakh for Reasi district, Rs 25 lakh for district Udhampur and Rs 5 lakh for Hiranagar Assembly constituency.
Out of Rs 70 lakh for the district Reasi, he said, adding Rs 20 lakh to purchase laproscopic surgery equipment and digital X-ray machine for Reasi district hospital and Rs 50 lakh for flood relief to Dera-Bhabar-Brahmna Panchayat in Reasi.
With today's announcement and allocation, Singh said, he had fully exhausted the first instalment of Rs 2.5 crore from MPLAD fund and also fulfilled his promise of spending an almost equal amount from outside sources.
Singh said, from time to time, he would be presenting a report card of the activities as a MP to the people of the constituency as well as his party leadership.
Complimenting the people of his constituency, the Union Minister said, he had no hesitation to declare with pride that the voters of Udhampur-Kathua-Doda had contributed the maximum in ensuring the BJP's tally of 25 seats.
