Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said today that he still fondly remembers the dogfight in the skies between PAF jets and Indian fighter planes during the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
Sharif's remarks came amidst the ongoing border tension with India as both sides blamed each other for the escalation.
He was talking to PAF chief Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt during a visit to Air Headquarters in Islamabad.
"I admire PAF since my childhood when I saw the dogfight in the skies of Lahore during 1965 war," Pakistan Air Force (PAF) quoted Sharif as saying in a statement.
"PAF leadership has done wonders in the past and will continue to do the wonders to come up to the nations expectations. PAF has always done extremely well," said Sharif.
The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction over completion of upgradation programmes and induction of new equipment.
"We are committed to work out a programme to give more resources and funds to make up the deficiencies and transform Pakistan Air Force on modern lines," he said.
He was also given a comprehensive brief on the operational readiness of Pakistan Air Force and the role played by it during operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan.
