Shooters gives first medal for India in World Universiade

India has opened its medal account in the World University Games here with the men's 10m Air Rifle shooting team bagging a bronze.
The trio of Akhil Sheoran, Harmanvir Singh and Ekambir Singh shot a total of 1859.0 points to finish third behind the shooters from China (1870.6 points) and Korea (1866.4) at the Naju Jeollanamdo Shooting Range.
In women's 10m Air Rifle final, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Apurvi Chandela, who has also qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics, missed a podium finish as she was placed fourth with a total score of 163.7 points in the finals.
Khedmadi Najmeh of Iran won the gold with 206.6 points while Gabriela Vognarova (205.7 points) of Czech Republic and Ivana Maksimovic (184.3) of Serbia bagged a silver and bronze respectively.
In archery, the Indian mix compound team comprising Kawalpreet Singh and V Jyothi Surekha has entered the final which is scheduled for tomorrow against Korea. The India men's compound team (of Kawalpreet, Gurwinder Singh and Aman) play against Italy in the bronze medal match tomorrow.
In tennis, Elwin Antony today beat Daniel Eduardo Wulff of Venezuela 6-1 6-3 in the men's singles second round. Ronit Singh Bisht has also advanced further after beating Abdulreda Ali of Qatar 6-1 6-4 in the second round.
