Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) today sought report from the Director General of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Shopian on the killing of four persons in a firing incident in the district last week.
Taking a suo-motu notice of the matter, SHRC sent the notices to state police chief Ashok Prasad and Deputy Commissioner Shopian Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Secretary SHRC Tariq Banday told PTI.
Four persons were killed in firing by CRPF personnel following an attack on their camp by militants at Gagran in Shopian on Saturday.
However, locals allege that the CRPF resorted to unprovoked firing and killed innocent youth.
Banday said the SHRC has asked the DGP and DC to submit a detailed factual position of the incident by October 25.
The SHRC has also asked people having any information related to the incident to report it to the commission, Banday said.
Meanwhile, moderate Hurriyat Conference has submitted a petition to the SHRC wherein the separatist amalgam has demanded a time-bound judicial probe and compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the next of the kin of the slain youths.
The petition also sought registration of FIR against the accused CRPF personnel, their immediate suspension and arrest and steps to check such incident in future.
