Falling in line with other Delhi University-affliated colleges, Shri Ram College of Commerce today announced it has deferred its admission process hours after issuing a provisional cut-off list for its undergraduate Commerce course.
The college, ranked among the best in the country for higher studies in Commerce and Economics, issued a notice expressing regret for the inconvenience caused.
"In view of the resolution passed by the Principal's Association, Shri Ram College of Commerce has decided to defer the admission to the B.Com (H), and BA (H) 1st year till further orders. Inconvenience caused, if any, is deeply regretted," SRCC Principal P C Jain said.
When contacted, Jain said the cut-off list issued will soon be removed from the college's website.
SRCC had issued a cut-off of 97.5 per cent for general category students for admission to its Commerce course, while it was 95.50 per cent for OBC students, 93.25 per cent for SC and 90 per cent for ST.
The earlier statement about the cut-off list had underlined the word 'Undergraduation' and did not mention the contentious Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).
After an emergency meeting of the Principals Association of the Delhi University, its president S K Garg announced that they had decided to defer the admission process, that was to begin tomorrow, until clear-cut guidelines are issued by the competent authority on the issue.
The decision had come hours after the expiry of a deadline set by University Grants Commission to DU to send its report of compliance of UGC's order that admissions will take place only under the three-year undergraduate programme and not FYUP.
