SI assaulted

Tense moments prevailed for
some time in Fingerpost area in this tourist town, following an attack on a sub-inspector of Police by some persons, said to be in retaliation of police official assaulting a college student.
According to police, Manikandan, SI, attached to Town police station, reportedly asked a plus two student, Jayaprakash, who was talking to some girls, whether he was indulging in eve teasing.
In the argument that ensued, Manikandan beat the student, claiming that he was drunk.
Hearing the incident, the student's father, Manoharan arrived at the scene along with his friends, and assaulted Manikandan, they said.

Tense moments prevailed in the area, as some police force was deployed, after the news of assault on police was spread.
Meanwhile, both the student and sub inspector were admitted to the Government Hospital here, police added.
