Taking a pledge against female foeticide, two sisters in Haryana took two extra 'pheras' (rounds of the fire) at their marriage dedicated to the vow, prompting Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to announce a reward for them today.
The Chief Minister announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for the two sisters of the state, an official release said here today.
Chanchal and Damini took the pledge during their marriage at Jind on November 4, it said.
Both the girls along with their grooms had performed nine 'pheras' around the fire, instead of the traditional seven, the release said.
Two additional 'pheras' were taken by the sisters as a pledge against female foeticide, a social menace for which Haryana is infamous.
The Chief Minister announced reward for the sisters at Karnal for their "path-breaking" act, the release added.
