About half of Indian IT workforce who took a certification test are paying for their own training and examinations as they look to further their career, says a report.
"Nearly half of Indian IT professionals (48 per cent) who took a certification exam are so keen to further their career that they are paying for their own training and examinations," a survey by computer-based testing company Pearson VUE said.
A survey of over 3,000 Indian IT professionals who had taken the certification test last year with Pearson VUE also found that 4 out of 10 certification exams were paid for by employers.
Most Indian software executives are reaping benefits of their investment, with over 6 in 10 (66 per cent) stating that gaining the qualification had a positive impact on their professional profile.
"Our research shows that Indian IT professionals can see tangible benefits from gaining further qualifications as a boost to their career, to the extent that they are willing to pay for their certification examinations themselves," Divyalok Sharma, director of client relations at Pearson VUE India said.
The Indian findings were part of the global survey of nearly 27,000 IT candidates across 180 countries around the world.
The report said that in order to remain professionally attractive to employers, it is now considered vital for staff to re-train throughout their career and embark on regular role-relevant training and assessment.
