Along with the life sentence, District Judge P P Jadhav also imposed Rs 10,000 fine on the convict - Shamsuddin Arshadali Sheikh.
Public Prosecutor Vinit A Kulkarni told the court that the victim, Sahid Shaikh, and the accused were friends and lived in the same slum area in Kalwa township of the district.
On December 22, 2014, the accused thrashed the victim to death after the latter abused his parents.
Later, the accused came out of the house and informed the neighbours about the killing. He was then caught by the neighbours and handed over to police, the prosecution said.
From the facts and chain of circumstances, the prosecution has clearly established the guilt of the accused.
It is clearly established that the accused assaulted Sahid by means of bamboo and intentionally killed him, the judge said in his recent order, adding that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
