Snowfall in Gulmarg, min temp drops at most places in Kashmir

The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir received fresh snowfall and was the coldest recorded place in the state today even as minimum temperature fell at most places in the Valley.
The local MeT department has, however, predicted decrease in precipitation from today onwards.
Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir and the star attraction for tourists especially skiers from abroad, received 16.5 inches of fresh snow till 8:30 AM, a MET department spokesperson said here.
He said the minimum temperature in the resort went down by over five degrees from minus 2.6 degrees Celsius yesterday to settle at minus 8 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, which serves as the base camp for the annual Amarnath yatra, recorded 8.5 cm of fresh snow, along with 37.4 mm of rainfall and the mercury there settled at a low of minus 0.4 degree Celsius - slightly down from 0.2 degree Celsius the previous night, the spokesperson said.
He said Srinagar - the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir - registered a low of 0.8 degree Celsius, compared to 0.4 degree Celsius the previous night.
The city received 20.6 mm of rainfall during the night, he added.
