Superintendent of Police Durga Oraon said Kumar, who was alone in the vehicle, was returning from Jamshedpur to the district on a four-wheeler when he hit a road divider on a bridge near Dugni.
The officer, who sustained injuries near his neck, was taken to the Sadar Hospital, Seraikela, where he died.
