A soldier, who allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself thrice with his service gun at Delhi Cantonment, is now out of danger, police said.
The condition of Lance Naik Satish Patil (32), a native of Karnataka, who received three bullet injuries in the chest, is better now. Once he is declared fit, his statement will be recorded, a senior police official said.
The incident took place around 9 AM yesterday when Patil's colleagues at the 17th Engineer Regiment were having breakfast at a mess. They suddenly heard gun shots and rushed towards the sound only to discover Patil lying in a pool of blood.
He was rushed to Army Hospital and police were informed. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. Police questioned Patil's colleagues and relatives but the cause behind the extreme step could not be ascertained yet, the official added.
