Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi wrapped up their visits to Rae Bareli and Amethi today, meeting party workers and launching new projects.
Former party president Sonia Gandhi, on the final day of a two-day visit to her Rae Bareli constituency, met office bearers of the local bar association.
She also met party workers here and inaugurated projects under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and a passport service centre at the general post office.
She participated in a meeting of the district vigilance and monitoring committee.
Travelling separately, Rahul Gandhi, who had reached the Bhuemau guest house here yesterday, also interacted with people there today.
Later, he left for a surprise visit to his Amethi constituency.
The Congress president was greeted by party workers at Imli Chauraha. His cavalcade then halted at Nigohi gram sabha where he held a chaupal and heard people's grievances.
He also inspected an under-construction toilet and visited a village temple.
At a chaupal held in Tekari Daadu village, Rahul asked people if they had got the jobs promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rahul visited a primary school in the village and interacted with children.
He enquired about the photograph of Goddess Saraswati and after seeing a picture of B R Ambedkar told the children that the Dalit leader had given people the right to vote.
He also saw drawings made by the children.
Chanchal, a Class 5 student, introduced herself in English and told Rahul that she aspired to become an engineer.
When he asked her to be more specific, the child said, "An engineer who constructs roads."
